Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot today inaugurated the National Yoga Olympiad in Mysuru, marking a significant event in the state’s efforts to promote yoga. In his inaugural speech, Governor Gehlot reminisced about the massive yoga event organized during the National Youth Festival in January last year, which aimed to set a new Guinness World Record.
The Governor highlighted Karnataka’s initiative to become the leading yoga-literate state in India through the ‘Har Ghar Yoga’ campaign. He emphasized that yoga, as prescribed by ancient scriptures, has achieved global recognition, positioning Bharat as the Guru of Yoga.
“Yoga is not just a physical exercise; it is a comprehensive practice that ensures physical, mental, and emotional health,” said Governor Gehlot. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he added, “Yoga has introduced India’s rich heritage to the world.” The Governor further explained that yoga is a holistic tool that fosters the overall growth of the practitioner, including spiritual well-being.
This year’s National Yoga Olympiad, being held in Mysuru for the first time, aims to bring together yoga enthusiasts and practitioners from across the country. The event underscores the importance of yoga in contemporary society and its potential to enhance the quality of life for individuals of all ages.
The Olympiad will feature various competitions and demonstrations, showcasing the diverse aspects of yoga. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in sessions that promote physical fitness, mental clarity, and emotional stability. The event is expected to attract a large number of participants and spectators, further solidifying Mysuru’s reputation as a hub for yoga and wellness.
Governor Gehlot’s address set the tone for the Olympiad, inspiring participants to embrace yoga as a means to achieve holistic health and well-being. The event reflects Karnataka’s ongoing commitment to promoting yoga and its benefits, aligning with the broader national and global movement towards a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.
