Samajwadi Party leader and Rampur MP Azam Khan and his family have been declared as absconders by the Court.
The UP police have put notices on the house of Azam Khan declaring them absconders in three cases. The Police officer said that the next step would be attachment of their properties.
On Thursday morning munadi (drum beat) notice was carried out against the three – Azam Khan, his wife Tanzeen Fatimah and his son Abdullah Azam. A man travelling in an auto rickshaw was making the announcement while another man beating the drum followed him.
Munadi, in official parlance, is part of Section 82 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and is used when a warrant against an accused cannot be executed.
Speaking to media, Rampur circle’s officer Satyajit Gupta said, “Azam Khan and his family members against whom non bailable warrants were issued by the court failed to appear before it. Therefore in compliance of section 82 of CrPC, apart from ‘munadi’ the proclamation was put on the wall of his house as well.”
On Wednesday, the court gave a fresh date and asked them to appear before it on January 24 in connection with the alleged forged birth certificate of Abdullah Azam, whose election from Suar assembly constituency was recently annulled by Allahabad high court.
The court has also issued the proclamation orders in another case registered against Azam and his three supporters for rioting and other offences based on the complaint of former UP minister’s neighbour.
