Kerala’s Kaziah Liz Mejo has emerged as Miss Universe India 2026, winning the national crown at the grand finale in Jaipur on August 23. At just 19, the Mavelikkara native now carries India’s hopes to the 75th Miss Universe competition in Puerto Rico this November. Her victory is therefore more than a personal milestone: it places a young Malayali woman at the centre of India’s global pageantry ambitions during a landmark anniversary edition.
A Young Talent from Kerala
Mejo, from Mavelikkara in Kerala’s Alappuzha district, is a law student, model and trained classical dancer. She emerged victorious from a reported field of 52 finalists at the Zee Studios finale, where outgoing titleholder Manika Vishwakarma crowned her successor.
Tamil Nadu’s Vaishnavi Gannesh was named first runner-up and Miss International India 2026, while Gujarat’s Anushri Satavlekar finished as second runner-up. The result highlights how national pageantry increasingly draws talent from diverse regions rather than remaining concentrated within traditional metropolitan fashion circles.
More Than a Beauty Crown
Mejo’s selection carries a broader representational significance. The coming months will consequently be crucial. Preparation will extend beyond wardrobe and fitness to interview training, cultural representation, advocacy, public speaking and social-media engagement.
