Gujarat has intensified its global investment outreach as Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, during his week-long visit to the United States, engaged the Indian diaspora, technology leaders and corporate executives to position the state as a preferred destination for advanced manufacturing and innovation. The visit, aimed at building momentum ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2027, reflects the state's broader ambition to transform from India's manufacturing powerhouse into a global hub for semiconductors, artificial intelligence and deep-tech industries.
Gujarat's Journey from Industrial Hub to Innovation Destination
For decades, Gujarat has established itself as one of India's strongest business destinations, driven by world-class ports, reliable power supply, industrial corridors and investor-friendly policies. The state has consistently attracted large-scale investments in petrochemicals, automobiles, pharmaceuticals and logistics, creating a robust industrial ecosystem.
In recent years, however, Gujarat has expanded its vision beyond conventional manufacturing. By promoting sectors such as semiconductors, AI, data centres and emerging technologies, it has sought to move higher up the global value chain. The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, held every two years, has become the state's flagship platform for attracting international investors, with the January 2027 edition already being promoted through targeted overseas engagements.
Diaspora Outreach Takes Centre Stage
Chief Minister Patel's August 17–24 US and Canada tour began in San Francisco, where he urged the Gujarati diaspora to leverage its global expertise, networks and entrepreneurship to strengthen Gujarat's innovation ecosystem.
On August 20, India's Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, hosted Patel and members of the Gujarati community at India House in Washington. The discussions focused on attracting global partnerships in manufacturing and technology while positioning the diaspora as a strategic bridge connecting investment, skills and innovation between the two countries.
The outreach highlighted the government's belief that overseas Gujaratis can play a pivotal role not only as investors but also as mentors, innovators and facilitators of international collaborations.
Tech Giants Join Gujarat's Growth Story
A key highlight of the visit was Patel's engagement with leading technology companies.
At Google's San Francisco Bay Area campus, Patel met Vice President Chandu Thota and senior executives to discuss collaboration in digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence and workforce development. The conversations reportedly explored initiatives for AI-based teacher training, student skilling and broader digital empowerment.
Patel also held discussions with Micron and Perplexity AI, focusing on semiconductor manufacturing, AI-driven agriculture, public service innovation, data security and potential investments in data centre infrastructure.
These discussions build upon Gujarat's growing semiconductor ambitions following the inauguration of Micron's semiconductor facility at Sanand earlier this year. The state now aims to develop a comprehensive ecosystem encompassing chip design, advanced materials and supply-chain manufacturing.
Beyond Investment: Building Long-Term Partnerships
Unlike traditional investment roadshows, Patel's US engagements have emphasized long-term strategic partnerships. More than 100 leaders from semiconductor, AI, DeepTech, EdTech, HealthTech and gaming industries participated in sector-focused roundtables, reflecting Gujarat's shift towards knowledge-intensive industries.
The strategy combines corporate engagement, diplomatic outreach and diaspora participation to create multiple channels for investment, talent development and technology transfer.

Bhupendra Patel's US visit signals Gujarat's evolution from a manufacturing destination to a technology-driven growth engine with global aspirations.
