Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met a group of people who had left Kairana in 2016 and returned later.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said that peace restored peace in Kairana because of the BJP government’s policy of zero-tolerance against crimes. Addressing a public meeting in Kairana, he lashed out at the previous governments and accused them of criminalisation of politics.
“After 2017, peace has returned to Kairana due to the state government’s policy of zero-tolerance against crimes. A number of families have returned to Kairana now. Today, I am here for the establishment of a battalion of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC),” he said.
Adityanath, who is visiting Kairana for the first time after becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2017, also met residents who returned after the migration in 2016.
Adityanath’s visit to Kairana ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled early next year assumes political significance. According to reports, between 2014 and 2016, several Hindu families in Kairana had migrated due to threats of extortion from another community.
The National Human Rights Commission had issued a notice to the then Uttar Pradesh government, led by Akhilesh Yadav, regarding the migration from Kairana. The exodus of Hindu families from Kairana was a big issue in the 2017 Assembly elections.
