In the Data-Driven Deepfake Era, Trust in Big Tech Fades – Time to FaceOff the Facts.

In a world dominated by AI-generated content and misinformation, platforms like Google, Meta, and X are no longer the ultimate sources of truth.

As deepfakes blur reality, traditional information gatekeepers lose credibility, making it crucial to redefine trust and verify facts independently.

Now more than ever, we must challenge narratives, demand transparency, and embrace decentralized, verifiable sources to navigate the evolving digital landscape. It’s time to Faceoff the Fact.

Deepfake technology poses growing risks of misinformation, privacy breaches, and security threats. In response, the Indian government is engaging with tech giants like Google, Meta, and X to assess their policies on synthetic media.

While these companies outline their strategies, gaps remain in regulation, enforcement, and user protection. In January 2024, Google, Meta, and X joined a MeitY-led consultation to discuss deepfake regulation in India.

Google (policy since Nov 2023) mandates content labeling and allows users to report misuse of their persona.

Meta (policy from April 2024) enforces AI-content disclosure, including in ads, and is developing protections for celebrity personas.

removes deceptive deepfakes but differentiates between harmful and creative AI-generated content.

The Delhi HC-mandated MeitY committee will refine regulations over the next three months, ensuring transparency, ethical AI use, and stronger user protection.
