UP Assembly Election Result: Akhilesh Yadav builds massive early lead in Karhal

2022 UP election: This is Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s first Assembly polls, having previously been elected as a Lok Sabha MP from Kannauj.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has raced ahead in counting for the Karhal Asembly seat, according to early trends from the Election Commission website. Yadav has over 7,000 votes and his nearest rival – SP Singh Baghel of the BJP – has less than 600.

This is Akhilesh Yadav’s first Assembly election. A former UP chief minister, he is also is a three-time Lok Sabha MP from the state’s Kanauj constituency.

Yadav has emerged as the ruling BJP’s biggest rival in the 2022 UP Assembly election, having stitched together a ‘rainbow’ alliance of regional parties to challenge the Yogi Adityanath government.

Early leads, however, show the BJP holding a dominant lead over the Samajwadi Party, having already crossed the halfway mark of 202 seats within the first two hours of counting.
