West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose arrived in Delhi on Monday night, amid speculation that he may meet President Droupadi Murmu and senior leaders. The visit comes in the wake of massive protests in West Bengal and a nationwide strike by doctors following the rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Allegations of a botched investigation and cover-up have further fueled the unrest.

Governor Bose had earlier visited the hospital on Thursday, where he spoke with the agitating junior doctors, assuring them that justice would be served. His visit to Delhi has raised expectations that he might discuss the ongoing crisis with the President.

During a Rakhi celebration event at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata earlier in the day, Governor Bose received rakhis from several women doctors and others. He used the occasion to pledge his support for creating a safer environment for women, stressing the need for collective action. “In West Bengal, democracy is degenerating. This cannot go on,” Bose remarked, calling for a unified effort to protect women.

He emphasized the urgency of societal change, stating, “Our society should become a place where c happy and secure. We have failed in our mission to our sisters. This is the minimum a civilised society should do.” Governor Bose reiterated his commitment to serving the people of West Bengal, acknowledging the challenges ahead but expressing determination to reach the goal of a safer society.

“My responsibility as a governor is to serve the people. I know the goal is far and the road is long, but the march is on. We will certainly reach our destination. I am with you, I am for you,” Governor Bose affirmed, underscoring his dedication to addressing the pressing issues in the state.

The governor’s visit to Delhi and his expected meeting with President Murmu are seen as crucial steps in addressing the escalating crisis in West Bengal.
