PM Narendra Modi might skip the inauguration of Khelo India Youth Games 2020, to be held in Guwahati, Assam. The games come amid protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
The All Assam Students Union (AASU), a students’ body that has been leading protests against CAA in most parts of Assam, has warned of huge demonstrations, if the PM attends the event.
The development comes weeks after the annual Japan Summit scheduled to be held between December 15-17, got cancelled due to protests. The meeting between PM Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shizno Abe was also deferred.
“We had invited the Prime Minister. Till now no confirmation has come. But informally, we have been informed that he is not coming,” said Avinash Joshi, CEO of Khelo India Games.
