Advantage Assam 2.0: A New Era of Investment and Development
The Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment & Infrastructure Summit 2025, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Guwahati, marks a significant milestone in Assam’s economic transformation. With the theme of integrating Assam’s growth potential with global opportunities, the summit aims to attract major investments to the northeastern state.
Highlighting Assam’s historical role in India’s prosperity, PM Modi expressed confidence that the state and the broader Northeast region would play a pivotal role in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation. He noted that global economic uncertainties have not deterred India’s rapid growth, reinforcing the country’s strong governance, skilled workforce, and policy stability as key drivers of investment.
Mukesh Ambani’s Rs 50,000 Crore Commitment to Assam
One of the biggest announcements at the summit came from Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, who pledged an investment of Rs 50,000 crore over the next five years in Assam. This investment is set to revolutionize multiple sectors, including technology, retail, hospitality, and renewable energy.
Making Assam AI-Ready Ambani announced Reliance’s commitment to setting up an artificial intelligence-ready data center in Assam, a move expected to benefit education, healthcare, and other key industries. He emphasized that Jio has already transformed Assam by making it “2G-mukt and 5G-yukt,” enabling digital connectivity at an unprecedented level.
Expansion of Reliance Retail Ambani also revealed plans to double the number of Reliance retail stores in Assam from 400 to 800, creating new employment opportunities and strengthening Assam’s retail infrastructure.
Luxury Hospitality and Bio-Gas Hubs A significant addition to Assam’s tourism landscape will be a 7-star Oberoi hotel in the heart of the state, built by Reliance, further boosting Assam’s appeal as a luxury travel destination. Additionally, Reliance will establish two world-class compressed biogas (CBG) hubs on wastelands, projected to produce 8 lakh tonnes of biogas annually—enough to fuel 2 lakh passenger cars daily.
PM Modi’s Vision for Assam’s Economic Growth
During his address, PM Modi underscored the transformative progress Assam has witnessed under his government. Comparing the state’s economic growth from 2018 to 2025, he highlighted how Assam’s GDP had doubled from ₹2.75 lakh crore to nearly ₹6 lakh crore in just six years, attributing this success to strong governance at both the state and central levels.
Infrastructure Boom in Assam-The Prime Minister emphasized major infrastructure investments in the region, particularly in connectivity. He noted that while only three bridges were built over the Brahmaputra in the previous 70 years, four new bridges have been constructed in the last decade. He also highlighted the modernization of over 60 railway stations and the introduction of the Northeast’s first semi high-speed train between Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri.
Assam’s Rise as an Investment Destination
PM Modi reinforced that the state government is focusing on education, skill development, and an improved investment environment, making Assam a hub for business and economic activity. He pointed out that India is strengthening trade ties with East Asia, enhancing supply chains, and entering strategic trade agreements, positioning Assam as a key player in India’s international trade efforts.
A Promising Future for Assam
The Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit is a testament to the state’s immense growth potential and the central government’s commitment to making it an investment hotspot. With Ambani’s massive financial pledge, infrastructure advancements, and policy reforms, Assam is on the path to becoming a key economic powerhouse in India.
