Delhi records 34.9 mm rain in 3 hours, schools closed in Ghaziabad

Flash floods triggered by rains disrupted road connectivity in some parts of Rampur subdivision of Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district as moderate rains continued to lash Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, officials said.


Heavy rains battered large parts of the country on Thursday morning with waterlogging reported in several parts of Delhi, Mumbai and Rajasthan. The heavy downpour also triggered flash floods and widespread disruption to rail and road traffic, with 11 people feared trapped under a collapsed garbage mound in Maharashtra's Pimpri Chinchwad and several parts of Delhi and Mumbai reeling under waterlogging.


Apart from this, Surat in Gujarat received torrential rains, with officials saying at least nine people have died in rain-related incidents in the last few days in the district. The administration has shifted thousands of people from low-lying areas to safer locations and distributed food packets in high-rise buildings in waterlogged areas of the city.

One person died and four people were rescued after a four-storey building under construction collapsed in the Rohini area amid rains in the city. Four to five people, besides the property owner's husband, are feared trapped under the debris.

The upper section of the iForte building in Noida Sector-62 collapsed amidst heavy rain. The falling debris crashed onto several vehicles parked below, causing damage. The incident reportedly occurred within the jurisdiction of the Sector-58 police station. There are no reports of any casualties.


After heavy rains, Ghaziabad faced massive waterlogging across key residential and commercial sectors. Major intersections have turned into virtual lakes, with water level rising up to two feet in low-lying areas. Weather forecasting agency Skymet warned that Ghaziabad, Noida, East Delhi, Baghpat, and Meerut could receive a staggering 180 mm to 250 mm of rainfall over the next 24 hours.


As per the updates from the IMD, fairly widespread rainfall is expected over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and western Uttar Pradesh until July 10. The weather department said the continuing rainfall is likely to provide relief from the humidity that residents have experienced over the past few days.

 

The latest spell of rain led to waterlogging in Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad. On Wednesday, torrential rainfall led to severe waterlogging, traffic congestion and flooding in many parts of the region. One person died after a building collapsed in Rohini during the rain. Rescue teams rushed to the spot and managed to pull out several people trapped under the debris.
