Nvidia-Perplexity Talks
Nvidia is reportedly discussing an investment in Perplexity as part of a funding round that could value the AI-search company at more than $30 billion, according to The Information as reported by Reuters. If completed, the deal would represent a valuation more than 50% above Perplexity’s previous financing level. Neither company had publicly confirmed the discussions at the time of reporting, making the proposed investment and valuation subject to change.
From AI Search to Digital Agents
Perplexity initially differentiated itself as an “answer engine”, combining web retrieval with AI-generated responses and source citations instead of simply presenting conventional search links. Its evolution is now moving towards agentic AI, where systems can independently perform multi-step tasks, interact with software and deliver completed outputs.
That transition is significant because it potentially moves Perplexity from the consumer-search market into the much larger enterprise-software and workflow-automation economy.
Revenue Growth Fuels the Valuation
Perplexity’s reported financial trajectory helps explain the proposed valuation. The Information reported that its annualised revenue had climbed above $750 million, compared with less than $250 million at the beginning of 2026. That represents a dramatic increase in its revenue run rate in less than a year.
However, annualised revenue should not be confused with audited annual revenue. It extrapolates current performance and can fluctuate with subscriptions, enterprise contracts, usage and customer retention. Nevertheless, the rapid growth indicates that Perplexity is increasingly demonstrating its ability to monetise AI beyond experimental consumer usage.
Perplexity Computer Changes the Equation
A major component of this strategy is Perplexity Computer, its cloud-based AI agent designed for professional users. Introduced in February, it can divide complex assignments into multiple steps, use specialised models, search the web, write and execute code, connect with external services and produce research, websites, analyses and documents.
Its commercial importance is substantial. Available to higher-tier Pro and Enterprise Max users, Computer pushes Perplexity towards recurring enterprise subscriptions, team deployments and workflow automation. Its agent API similarly expands the company’s potential into developer infrastructure.
Why Nvidia Has a Strategic Interest
For Nvidia, investing in Perplexity could extend its influence from the infrastructure powering AI to the applications consuming that infrastructure. Faster adoption of AI agents means greater demand for accelerated computing, cloud capacity and Nvidia’s software ecosystem.
The relationship is not entirely new. Perplexity participates in Nvidia’s Nemotron Coalition, linking it to Nvidia’s efforts around open frontier AI models. An equity investment could therefore deepen an existing technological relationship while giving Nvidia exposure to one of the fastest-growing AI application companies.
AI’s Next Battle Is Monetisation
The proposed investment reflects a broader shift in AI economics. The market is increasingly valuing companies not merely for model sophistication, but for their ability to turn AI capabilities into recurring revenue and productive enterprise workflows.
For Perplexity, a $30-billion-plus valuation would be a powerful vote of confidence—but also a demanding expectation. Its challenge will be proving that agentic AI can deliver reliable, secure and economically sustainable results at scale. For Nvidia, the bet could be even bigger: owning a stake in the applications that turn AI infrastructure into everyday business value.
