A Crime Branch officer in UP’s Kanpur has been suspended for smoking hookah with a gangster. A probe has been ordered.
A picture of a Crime Branch Inspector smoking hookah with a top criminal surfaced on social media. After the photo of Mohammad Asif sitting with Kanpur’s Ankit Lala went viral, the cop was suspended and an enquiry was ordered.
Taking cognizance of the matter, Joint CP, Kanpur Police, Anand Prakash Tiwari, ordered an investigation into the matter.
“The incident has come to our notice. The concerned officer has been suspended and attached to the Police Line. A committee has also been made to investigate the matter,” he said.
The Samajwadi Party shared the news on its social media account and demanded action against the cop.
“If the crime branch’s officer is smoking hookah with criminals, how could the crime in UP stop? In Kanpur, the viral picture of a crime branch officer smoking hookah with a criminal is a blot on the police department. The zero-tolerance policy against criminals is just a show, there should be action against the policeman.”
