"I Have Full Confidence in Our Captain": Sanjiv Goenka Backs Rishabh Pant After Tense Post-Match Chat Goes Viral

Lucknow Super Giants lost to Delhi Capitals in their opening game of IPL 2026 on Wednesday. After the match, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka took to X to express full confidence in his captain Rishabh Pant, even as his video with the coach and skipper after the match went viral.

Ever since Lucknow Super Giants, Sanjiv Goenka blasted former captain, KL Rahul, during IPL 2024, his every chat with the current captain, Rishabh Pant, and coach, Justin Langer, especially after a loss, goes viral. The same happened on Wednesday as his discussion video with Pant and Langer sparked reactions among the fans on social media. It didn't take much time for the video to go viral, as many reckoned that this could turn out to be a tough season for the LSG skipper, who is earning a whopping amount of Rs 27 crore.

However, after the match, in the wee hours of Thursday, Sanjiv Goenka took to X to express 'full confidence' in his captain while also noting that this is just the start of a new IPL season. He is confident that the team will bounce back stronger in the coming matches after a poor show in the opener.

"This is a long season, and moments like these are part of building something meaningful. I have full confidence in our captain and the team to respond with strength. To our fans, thank you for your support at Ekana today, we will come back stronger. The story of  @LucknowIPL  this season is far from written," Goenka wrote on his X account.

Fans react to Sanjiv Goenka's post

However, the social media users felt there was more to this post, especially after the video of Goenka's discussion with Pant and Langer went viral. One of the users reckoned the LSG owner is doing damage control, while a few bashed him for reacting only after one loss in the season.

"This is so embarrassing. You teach player how to play cricket," one of the users wrote. Another user asked Goenka to have the team meetings inside closed doors and not on the field after the match. "Please keep your team meetings indoors, it doesn’t look good when all the coaching staff and you are present on the ground discussing about game," the user wrote.
