Infosys Foundation Invests in IUCAA
Infosys Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Inter-University Center of Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) through an endowment worth INR 6.5 Crores to build a novel and powerful instrument called Wide Area Linear Optical Polarimeter (WALOP). The Delhi government has ordered the Badarpur power plant to be shut for 10 days due to high pollution levels. Last year, too, it was closed for some time, but resumed operations after the state-run NTPC managed to show that the emission levels from its two functional units were within 50 microgram per cubic metre, the standard set by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee. Centre meets 35% of target to build toilets for urban households
Over one-third of the mission target of constructing individual household toilets in urban areas under Swachh Bharat Mission has been met, a statement from the Ministry of Urban Development said. During the two years of Swachh Bharat Mission, 22, 97,389 individual household toilets have so far been constructed in urban areas. PowerGrid to set up energy highways to meet demand growth
Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) is planning to build energy highways across the country to meet a projected growth in demand and ease the load on the national grid. The highways include 11 high-capacity corridors, each with a capacity of about 4,000 Mw, and three high-capacity HVDC (high-voltage, direct current) systems (6,000 Mw each).
