A Landmark Investment in Andhra Pradesh
Reliance Industries, in partnership with Canadian multinational Brookfield Corporation and U.S.-based Digital Realty, announced an $11 billion investment to develop one gigawatt (GW) of AI-native data center capacity in Andhra Pradesh. Slated for completion by 2030, the project will span a 400-acre campus in Visakhapatnam, aiming to transform the city into a global hub for AI data processing. Operating under the joint venture name Digital Connexion, the initiative marks a pivotal moment in India’s journey toward becoming a digital superpower.
High Level Capabilities for AI Infrastructure
The data centers will be purpose-built to handle hyperscale AI workloads, integrating advanced GPUs, TPUs, and AI processors. Features include high rack densities, redundant power feeds, and robust power substations to ensure uninterrupted performance for global enterprises, hyperscalers, and cloud service providers.
Digital Connexion leverages Reliance’s existing campuses in Chennai and Mumbai, known for low-latency, carrier-neutral connectivity. The Visakhapatnam facility enhances this network, enabling seamless integration for both national and international clients, while meeting growing demands for AI-intensive computational power.
This project aligns with a broader trend of AI and data infrastructure expansion in India, alongside Google’s $15 billion AI data center investment and initiatives by Larsen & Toubro and Adani Group. Together, these investments position India as a competitive global destination for digital infrastructure, fueled by rising AI adoption, cloud computing growth, and government incentives for tech development.
Economic and Strategic Benefits for India
The $11 billion project promises substantial economic dividends:
· Job Creation: Thousands of direct and indirect jobs will emerge across construction, operations, IT, and ancillary services, stimulating local employment and skill development.
· Digital Ecosystem Growth: Hosting hyperscale AI data centers will attract global enterprises, fostering innovation clusters in AI, big data analytics, and cloud technologies.
· Infrastructure and FDI Boost: The campus strengthens India’s digital backbone and encourages foreign direct investment, reinforcing Visakhapatnam as a technology and business destination.
· Global Competitiveness: By establishing AI-ready infrastructure, India can compete with established hubs in the U.S., Europe, and Southeast Asia, securing a larger share of the rapidly growing AI services market.
A Strategic Leap Toward a Digital Future
Digital Connexion’s investment represents more than infrastructure—it signals India’s emergence as a critical node in the global AI ecosystem. By combining state-of-the-art technology, strategic location, and economic foresight, Andhra Pradesh is poised to become a magnet for AI-driven innovation, attracting global enterprises while generating long-term employment and technological dividends.
As AI and cloud services expand exponentially, this development ensures India is not just a consumer but a leader in building and operating next-generation digital infrastructure, cementing its role in the worldwide AI revolution.
