National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday filed his nomination papers for the post of Vice President of India. The filing took place at Parliament House in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Union ministers, MPs, and key NDA leaders.
PM Modi acted as the chief proposer in the first set of nomination papers. In total, four sets of papers were submitted, each carrying the signatures of 20 proposers and 20 seconders.
Just days earlier, the Prime Minister had praised Radhakrishnan on social media, calling him a leader with “dedication, humility, and intellect,” who has consistently worked to empower marginalised communities.
NDA’s Unanimous Pick
Radhakrishnan’s candidature was finalised unanimously at a strategy meeting of NDA partners, hosted at Union Minister Pralhad Joshi’s residence. Senior NDA leader Jitan Ram Manjhi confirmed that the alliance stood firmly united behind him.
Currently the Governor of Meghalaya, Radhakrishnan is a veteran BJP leader with decades of experience in both legislative and administrative roles. A two-time MP from Tamil Nadu, he is widely respected for his grassroots connect and focus on social upliftment.
Election Next Month
The Vice Presidential election is scheduled for next month. With the NDA holding a numerical majority in Parliament, Radhakrishnan is considered the clear frontrunner. If elected, he will succeed the outgoing Vice President and assume one of the country’s highest constitutional offices.
