G7 Reaffirms Support for Israel as Conflict Deepens

Amid five days of intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran, the Group of Seven (G7) nations issued a forceful joint statement Tuesday, firmly backing Israel’s right to self-defence while branding Iran the “main source of regional instability and terror.” Meeting at the G7 Summit, leaders from the world’s major democracies called for urgent de-escalation in the Middle East, a ceasefire in Gaza, and renewed efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

The Broader Conflict: Israel vs. Iran

Tensions between Israel and Iran have exploded into open confrontation, with missile and drone strikes exchanged across borders in a dangerous escalation of long-standing hostilities. The flashpoint for the conflict appears to be Iran’s increased military posturing and its suspected involvement in supporting armed proxies across the region. In return, Israel has launched targeted attacks deep inside Iranian territory, warning civilians in Tehran to evacuate in anticipation of further strikes.

This volatile situation has already claimed dozens of lives and shows no signs of easing. The threat of a broader regional war looms large as both powers double down on military operations and rhetoric.

G7’s Joint Statement: A Clear Stance

The G7 statement reflects global alarm over the worsening situation. It reads:

“We, the leaders of the G7, reiterate our commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. In this context, we affirm that Israel has the right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for Israel’s security. We also affirm the importance of the safety of civilians. Iran is the main source of regional instability and terror. Our clear opinion is that Iran should not have nuclear weapons.”

G7 leaders also stressed the importance of restoring calm in Gaza and voiced support for international efforts to stabilize energy markets disrupted by the conflict.

U.S. Reaction: Trump Urges Tehran Evacuation

As tensions flared, U.S. President Donald Trump abruptly left the G7 Summit a day early to deal with the crisis. Speaking on his social platform Truth Social, Trump urged Iranians to evacuate Tehran “immediately,” warning of a large-scale Israeli military response. He reiterated that the current crisis could have been avoided had Iran agreed to a nuclear deal with the U.S., but noted talks are now stalled and unlikely to resume soon.

“Iran chose confrontation over cooperation,” Trump stated. “We are now on the brink of something much bigger unless action is taken fast.”

The World Watches, Stakes High

The G7’s unified stance sends a clear signal: the international community is watching closely and is unwilling to tolerate nuclear escalation or unchecked regional aggression. While affirming Israel’s right to protect its people, world leaders are also urging restraint, ceasefire, and a renewed push for diplomacy.

This is a pivotal moment for the Middle East — and the world. Whether the region descends further into chaos or pulls back from the brink now depends on the courage of its leaders and the resolve of the international community. The time for measured diplomacy is now.
