The Indian Army has rebutted claims made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the compensation provided to the family of a deceased Agniveer, Ajay Kumar. Gandhi had shared a video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), in which Kumar's father alleged that the family had not received the compensation promised by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Rahul Gandhi’s Allegations:
- Rahul Gandhi stated that the family of the martyred Agniveer had not received any financial assistance.
- He claimed that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had lied in Parliament about the compensation being provided to the families of Agniveers who are killed in action.
- Gandhi urged people to listen to the families of Agniveers, rather than politicians.
- The Indian Army released a statement on X titled ‘Clarification on emoluments to Agniveer Ajay Kumar’.
- The Army confirmed that Ajay Kumar's family has already been paid Rs 98.39 lakh.
- The total compensation amount, including the final settlement, will be around Rs 1.65 crore.
- The Army addressed the misinformation spreading on social media, affirming that compensation has been provided to Ajay Kumar’s family.
- The clarification aimed to correct the public record and assure that the compensation process is ongoing and nearing completion.
