Yoga Shows the Way to Peace in Times of Global Unrest, Unites the World: PM Modi on International Yoga Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended warm greetings to people across the globe on the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, describing the ancient Indian practice as a beacon of peace and a bridge of unity in an increasingly turbulent world.

Calling the event a moment of global unity, PM Modi highlighted how millions worldwide have made Yoga an integral part of their daily lives, transcending barriers of nationality, language, and culture.

“Unfortunately, today the whole world is going through some kind of stress. Unrest and instability are increasing in many regions. In such a situation, Yoga shows us the direction to peace,” the Prime Minister said while addressing Yoga enthusiasts around the world.

Referring to this year’s theme, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’, PM Modi underlined the deep interconnection between all living beings and the planet. “The health of every entity on Earth is interconnected. Human well-being depends on the health of the soil that grows our food, the rivers that give us water, the animals that share our ecosystems, and the plants that nourish us,” he said.

He further explained that Yoga goes beyond improving physical and mental well-being — it nurtures awareness about environmental and ecological harmony. “Yoga awakens us to this interconnectedness and teaches us that we are not isolated individuals but a part of nature itself,” he added.

Highlighting the universality of Yoga, PM Modi said, “Yoga simply means to join. It is an immense pleasure to see how Yoga has connected the entire world. Yoga is for everyone, beyond boundaries, backgrounds, age or ability.”

Public events, mass Yoga sessions, and workshops were held across India and in numerous countries to mark the day, reinforcing the message of collective well-being and harmony.

Observed every year on June 21 since its adoption by the United Nations in 2014 following India’s proposal, International Yoga Day celebrates Yoga as a timeless practice that strengthens both body and mind.

Calling for a renewed commitment to take the global Yoga movement further, PM Modi urged people everywhere to embrace “Yoga for Humanity 2.0” — a vision where inner peace shapes global policy.

From the iconic Sydney Opera House to the heights of Mount Everest and even under the sea, the same message echoes worldwide: Yoga is for everyone, and it belongs to all.
