In a significant move ahead of upcoming political challenges in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday (June 23) expelled three sitting MLAs for engaging in activities deemed detrimental to the party’s core ideology and discipline.
The expelled legislators are:
-
Abhay Singh, MLA from Gosaiganj
-
Rakesh Pratap Singh, MLA from Gauriganj
-
Manoj Kumar Pandey, MLA from Unchahar
According to the party, these MLAs were promoting communal and divisive politics and allegedly supporting policies that go against farmers, women, youth, businesses, and the working class. In an official statement on social media platform X, the SP said:
“In the interest of the public, the Samajwadi Party has expelled the following legislators from the party for supporting communal, divisive, and negative ideologies that go against the Samajwadi spirit of harmony and positive politics, and for siding with ideas that are anti-farmer, anti-women, anti-youth, anti-business, anti-working class, and anti-PDA ideology (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak).”
Notably, the expelled MLAs had cross-voted during the Rajya Sabha elections held last year, openly defying the party line. Since then, they had been absent from party events and meetings. Despite being given multiple chances to reconcile, they failed to mend their ways, the party said.
The SP leadership reiterated that it would not tolerate any breach of party discipline and that strict action would continue against any leader who works against its principles.
“The grace period granted to these individuals for a change of heart has now ended. For others, it continues due to their good conduct. There will be no place for anti-people elements in the party in the future as well,” the party warned.
This decision marks another step by the SP to tighten internal discipline and present a united front ahead of key political battles in the state.
