PM Modi’s ₹9,400 Crore Push Powers Telangana’s Growth Ambitions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched and inaugurated development projects worth nearly ₹9,400 crore in Hyderabad on May 10, marking one of the largest infrastructure investment drives in Telangana in recent years. Spanning sectors such as railways, highways, industrial development, healthcare, textiles, and energy, the projects are aimed at transforming Telangana into a major manufacturing and logistics hub while accelerating employment generation and regional connectivity.

The event, held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in Gachibowli, was attended by Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy. The large-scale announcement also reflected growing emphasis on infrastructure-led economic growth and industrial expansion in southern India.

PM MITRA Park and Industrial Smart City to Drive Manufacturing Growth

Among the biggest highlights was the inauguration of the PM MITRA Park in Warangal, envisioned as a major textile manufacturing and export hub. The project is expected to significantly strengthen Telangana’s textile ecosystem by integrating spinning, weaving, processing, and garment manufacturing within a single industrial zone.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City, a flagship industrial infrastructure project designed with advanced digital and ICT-enabled systems. The smart city is expected to attract investments in automobile manufacturing, machinery production, food processing, and engineering industries.

The government believes these projects will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, particularly for youth and workers in semi-urban and rural regions. The industrial push is also intended to position Telangana as a competitive destination for both domestic and global manufacturing investments.

Railways and Highways Receive Major Expansion Push

A substantial part of the ₹9,400 crore package focuses on strengthening transportation infrastructure.

Prime Minister Modi flagged off the Kazipet-Vijayawada multi-tracking railway project, aimed at increasing railway capacity, reducing congestion, and improving freight and passenger movement across important economic corridors.

The Kazipet Rail Under-Bypass project was also launched to improve operational efficiency and reduce delays in train movement.

Additionally, the Centre announced modernization work for 42 railway stations across Telangana, including the redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station with an estimated investment of nearly ₹200 crore. The station redevelopment aims to provide world-class passenger amenities and modern transit infrastructure.

On the road infrastructure front, the foundation stone was laid for the four-laning of the Gudebellur-Mahabubnagar section of National Highway-167. The highway forms part of the Hyderabad-Panaji Economic Corridor and is expected to improve trade connectivity between Telangana and Karnataka.

Energy and Healthcare Infrastructure Strengthened

To meet Telangana’s rising fuel and industrial energy demands, the Prime Minister also launched a Greenfield Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) Terminal near Hyderabad and Malkapur. The project is expected to strengthen regional fuel storage and supply chain efficiency.

In healthcare, Modi inaugurated Sindhu Hospital in Hyderabad, a state-of-the-art non-profit cancer-focused quaternary care institution aimed at expanding access to advanced medical treatment and specialized healthcare services.

Economic and Political Significance of the Projects

The infrastructure package carries both economic and political significance. Economically, the projects are designed to enhance Telangana’s industrial competitiveness, improve logistics efficiency, and attract long-term investments. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy noted that railway projects worth nearly ₹50,000 crore are currently underway in the state, alongside the operation of multiple Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains.

Politically, the event also highlighted cooperative federalism, with both the Centre and the Telangana government emphasizing development despite political differences.

Telangana Positioned for a New Growth Phase

The ₹9,400 crore infrastructure push represents a major attempt to reshape Telangana’s economic landscape through large-scale industrialization, connectivity expansion, and social infrastructure development. By combining manufacturing hubs, transportation upgrades, energy projects, and healthcare investments, the Centre aims to position Telangana as a critical growth engine in southern India. The long-term success of these initiatives, however, will depend on efficient implementation, sustained investment flows, and the ability to translate infrastructure expansion into broad-based employment and economic opportunity for the state’s growing population.
