PM Modi To Kickstart ₹21,700-Crore Gujarat-Daman Projects

PM Modi is set to launch Major Projects in Gujarat and Daman

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch and inaugurate development projects worth more than ₹21,700 crore during his June 5 visit to Gujarat and the Union Territory of Daman and Diu. The extensive package spans industrial infrastructure, healthcare, transport, tourism and education, reflecting the government’s broader focus on accelerating regional growth while strengthening economic and social infrastructure.

The visit is being seen as one of the most significant development outreach programmes in recent months, particularly because it combines large-scale industrial investments with projects aimed at improving healthcare access, connectivity and employment generation.

A Push for Balanced Regional Development

Over the past decade, Gujarat has remained central to India’s industrial and infrastructure expansion strategy, with major investments in manufacturing, logistics, energy and ports. Simultaneously, the government has increasingly focused on strengthening infrastructure in smaller Union Territories and remote regions to improve connectivity, tourism and public services.

The latest package reflects this dual approach. While Gujarat’s projects are aimed at reinforcing its role as an industrial growth engine, the initiatives in Daman and Lakshadweep are designed to improve regional infrastructure and stimulate local economic opportunities.

The development drive also aligns with broader national priorities such as manufacturing self-reliance, healthcare expansion and sustainable urban development.

Gujarat Projects Focus on Industry and Connectivity

A major portion of the investment—approximately ₹18,800 crore—is concentrated in Gujarat. The Prime Minister will begin his visit in Surat and review industrial operations at Hazira, one of India’s largest industrial and petrochemical hubs.

Key projects include the four-laning of stretches of National Highway-56, aimed at improving connectivity to tribal regions and enhancing access to the Statue of Unity, one of the country’s leading tourism destinations.

The government will also inaugurate a 200-bed ESIC Hospital in Surat to strengthen secondary healthcare services, including trauma and emergency care facilities.

In the industrial sector, projects related to interstate transmission systems, power infrastructure upgrades in Valsad and effluent treatment facilities in Dahej and Sarigam are expected to improve energy reliability and support environmentally sustainable industrial growth.

These projects are also closely linked to India’s broader manufacturing and industrial modernization goals.

Daman Development Targets Tourism and Education

In Daman, projects worth nearly ₹1,630 crore will focus on tourism promotion, investment attraction and skill development.

One of the flagship initiatives is the construction of an iconic signature bridge connecting the Jampore and Devka sea fronts, aimed at boosting tourism infrastructure and improving coastal connectivity.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Daman Convention Centre, expected to support business tourism, conferences and investment-related events in the region.

Another major project is the new campus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology, which is expected to strengthen skill development and employment opportunities in fashion and design-related sectors.

Additionally, the NAMO Hospital in Daman will significantly improve healthcare access by serving nearly 1,500 outpatients daily, while a new airport terminal is expected to strengthen regional air connectivity and economic activity.

Lakshadweep Projects Expand Island Infrastructure

The Prime Minister will also lay foundation stones for development projects worth ₹885 crore in Lakshadweep, focusing on strengthening infrastructure and public services in the island territory.

These initiatives reflect the government’s growing emphasis on integrating remote regions into the national development framework.

A Comprehensive Regional Growth Strategy

The ₹21,700-crore development package highlights the government’s effort to combine industrial expansion with social and regional infrastructure development. By investing simultaneously in healthcare, roads, tourism, education and manufacturing ecosystems, the initiative seeks to create long-term economic opportunities while improving quality of life. Beyond immediate infrastructure gains, the projects underscore a broader strategy of balanced regional growth aimed at strengthening India’s industrial competitiveness and inclusive development trajectory.
