Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has secured an ₹8,500-crore ($880.8 million) interstate power transmission project in Andhra Pradesh, marking one of the country's most significant infrastructure awards supporting the green energy transition. The project will provide critical transmission infrastructure for upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia facilities, while also meeting the growing electricity demand of data centres around Visakhapatnam. Beyond its financial value, the project strengthens India's clean-energy ambitions and reinforces Adani's position as a leading private player in the nation's transmission network.
Powering India's Clean Energy Vision
India has identified green hydrogen and green ammonia as key pillars of its long-term energy transition strategy, aiming to become a major global producer and exporter of clean fuels. Andhra Pradesh, particularly Kakinada and the coastal region, has emerged as a strategic hub for these industries due to its renewable energy potential and port connectivity.
At the same time, Adani Energy Solutions—the rebranded Adani Transmission—has steadily expanded its interstate transmission network and smart-metering business, positioning itself to support India's rapidly growing renewable energy and digital infrastructure sectors.
A Transmission Backbone for Emerging Industries
The project was awarded through the government's tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism and is designed to evacuate and transmit electricity to planned green hydrogen, green ammonia and data-centre projects in and around Visakhapatnam.
With an estimated transmission capacity of around 4,500 MW, the network will facilitate the movement of renewable power from generation sites to industrial consumers. The investment highlights the growing importance of modern transmission infrastructure in ensuring that clean-energy projects receive uninterrupted electricity at commercial scale.
Supporting Andhra Pradesh's Green Hydrogen Ambitions
The transmission project complements Andhra Pradesh's broader vision of becoming a global clean-energy hub. The state is already home to AM Green's proposed $10-billion green hydrogen and green ammonia complex at Kakinada, which targets production of 1.5 million tonnes of green ammonia annually by 2030.
Supported by gigawatt-scale solar and wind capacity, nearly 1,950 MW of electrolyser installations and dedicated storage systems, the project is expected to supply export markets such as Germany, Japan and Singapore. AESL's transmission network will form the essential energy backbone connecting renewable generation with these large industrial facilities, ensuring reliable and efficient power delivery.
Strategic Gains for Adani and India's Energy Transition
For Adani Energy Solutions, the project adds another long-term regulated asset capable of generating stable annuity-style revenues while strengthening its presence in India's rapidly expanding transmission sector.
