Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stirred controversy on Tuesday after claiming he deserves a Nobel Prize for governance. The remark, made during the launch of the Punjabi edition of his party’s book “Kejriwal Model” in Chandigarh, drew sharp criticism from the BJP, which mocked the statement and accused the AAP leader of overseeing an administration marred by corruption and inefficiency.
“Despite being stopped from working, we performed. I should get a Nobel Prize for governance and administration,” Kejriwal said, referring to the challenges his government faced from the Centre and the Lieutenant Governor during his tenure in Delhi.
BJP Reacts Sharply
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva called the statement "laughable", accusing Kejriwal of indulging in self-glorification while his government stands tainted by multiple scams.
"If there were Nobel Prizes for corruption, incompetence, and anarchy, Kejriwal would be a top contender," Sachdeva said, further alleging that public funds were misused in the controversial “Sheesh Mahal” renovation of the Chief Minister’s residence.
The BJP has long criticized the AAP leadership for extravagant spending on Kejriwal’s official residence, calling it symbolic of misplaced priorities amid Delhi’s civic issues.
AAP Hits Back
Responding to the BJP's remarks, AAP Delhi President Saurabh Bharadwaj said the BJP, now in administrative control of Delhi, should focus on delivering governance rather than resorting to political name-calling.
“Virendra Sachdeva is in the government now. It is time to govern, not just talk. Delhi is waiting for real work, not distractions,” Bharadwaj asserted.
The row has reignited debate over governance records in Delhi, especially in the wake of the ongoing administrative tussle between the Delhi government and the Centre.
