Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today extended his heartfelt best wishes to citizens on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, celebrating the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister emphasized the government's strong commitment to realizing the ideals of Lord Buddha. He expressed hope that the enlightened thoughts of the Master would foster joy, harmony, and unity across society.
“Best wishes on Buddha Purnima. Our commitment towards realising the ideals of Lord Buddha is very strong. May his thoughts deepen the spirit of joy and togetherness in our society,” PM Modi wrote.
The Prime Minister further called upon citizens to renew their resolve to adopt the life values of Lord Buddha, describing the sacred occasion as one that inspires walking on the path of peace, compassion, and goodwill.
The Wisdom of the Eightfold Path
In a profound addition to his message, PM Modi shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam, highlighting a core teaching of Gautama Buddha. He noted that according to the Buddha, when a person truly understands that there is no permanent, self-existing entity either within or outside, and diligently follows the Eightfold Path—including Right View, Right Intention, and Right Conduct—they become free from suffering and attain supreme peace.
This message resonated widely across the country, as devotees gathered at temples, monasteries, and homes to offer prayers, light lamps, and engage in acts of charity, reflecting the timeless values of compassion and non-violence that Lord Buddha espoused.
A Call for Inner and Social Harmony
PM Modi’s message came as part of the nationwide celebrations of Buddha Purnima, which holds deep spiritual significance for millions. His call for adopting Buddha’s teachings was seen as a reminder to rise above conflict and embrace a life of ethical conduct, mindfulness, and universal goodwill.
The Prime Minister concluded with an appeal to all citizens to draw inspiration from the life of Lord Buddha, reinforcing that the path to both individual liberation and societal peace lies in compassion, right action, and inner wisdom.
